I posted this on Facebook yesterday, but since I haven’t blogged in a while, and many of my readers aren’t Facebook friends, I thought I would post it here as well. I have to say that I do so with some hesitation, and a caveat. I mean no disrespect to Davy Jones, or to any of the millions of people all over the world who loved him. My entire family is saddened by his death. Please understand that. This was simply one of those times when a series of unfortunate mistakes quite unexpectedly erupted into a moment of comic relief.
With that said, here is a text conversation I had with my daughter Sydney yesterday:
ME: Davy Jones died
SYD: I know 😦 i saw it
ME: He was only 66
SYD: How
ME: Article I say didn’t say
(…after I sent that I realized the first “say” should have been “saw”, so I sent a follow-up text intended to correct my mistake)
ME: Saw
SYD: He died from a saw?
(…I cannot even explain how hard I laughed at that point)

Barry,
LOL, that was funny.
However, I must be really out of touch. Who in the world is Davy Jones??? Not the one from Pirates of the Caribbean, I’m guessing!
Now I’m going to have to look it up on Google.

Derek, you’re a little too young to have grown up watching The Monkees, but Davy Jones was one of the original members of that popular band / TV series.

Berry,
Thank you for sharing your personal text message between you and your daughter, it was very cute. I’ve got a daughter myself and I can say they grow up way to fast. I remember the first time I looked into her eyes, her little head laid right into the palm of my hand, and now 16 and driving. We might drive them crazy, but lets never, stop reminding them how much you love them.
Oh, yea thanks for telling Derek who Davey Jones was. I’m 37 and was going to look him up myself, lol.

Lizzie, thanks for the sweet note and the encouragement to love on our kids while we can. That’s great advice!
