Do you celebrate Advent? I never had–at least, not until 2005. Our new pastor arrived in the summer of that year, and one of the things he wanted to do was begin a new tradition at our church–celebrating Advent together. From that first year until now, my family and I have thoroughly enjoyed observing the season, both at church and at home.
So now I’m curious how many of you celebrate Advent. I’d like for you to take the poll below, and then perhaps elaborate in the comments on how you or your church observe Advent, and how long you’ve been doing it. Thanks!

Not opposed to it, just ignorant about it.

I grew up in the Lutheran church. As a child, it was quite exciting, all the events leading up to Christmas, and the liturgy was quite beautiful. As an adult, saved at age 40, I missed the opportunity to celebrate with my children at home – or at church for that matter. If, by God’s grace, my husband and I are able to have more children at my late age, we’ll probably create a family Advent tradition at home. As for now, our church, which was planted just over a year ago has already established the tradition of celebrating Advent. We have a special Advent themed message delivered each of the four Sunday evenings leading up to Christmas by one of the men in the church. We have an Advent candle wreath as well; and the worship for the services is all Christmas hymns and songs.

Advent is a period of worship that I sadly do not engage in.
Quite frankly, it is not something I even thought about much until I read this post.
Like Archie, I am not opposed as much as ignorant to the blessings of further worshiping my risen Lord in the season honoring His human birth.
