Yes, I know convenient is misspelled in the title. There’s a reason for that.
The kids are back in school. The three who were still living at home all find themselves in new circumstances this year. Two are in college—both moved out from under our roof this year
—and the youngest, with a mixture of excitement and apprehension, embarked on his first year of 5th and 6th grade center.
On the first day of school Micah had to write a short paper about himself. You can read it below. He may not win any spelling bees, but he sure is sweet (and enthusiastic, as you can tell from his generous use of exclamation marks). The note in cursive at the bottom is from his teacher.

LOTR is 5th grade. Obviously an advanced standing student!Good for him, he will read it again and again through the years. Sorry I waited until after college to start it myself. Hmmm, where is my copy<
Well, if you don’t find your copy, Andy, I’m sure Micah will loan you his when he’s done!
Congratulations to Micah !
Your paper is ‘geheimnisvoll’. That is German for ‘full of wonder’.
You have a great ‘writing voice’.
Don’t worry ever about ‘editing’ at first, just get your thoughts down on paper, and then, later, you can:
I. re-arrange what you wrote (that is called ‘revision’) if you want.
A hint: it helps to have a friend read your paper back to you out loud, so you can ‘hear’ what you wrote, and then you will know if you meant to say it that way.
And then,
II. you can pull out a dictionary, and polish up your paper (this is called ‘editing’).
Checking for grammar, punctuation, and all those goodies is so much fun, isn’t it. (not)
Oh. And one more thing. The most important thing of all:
When you have written your paper, take out a yellow high-lighter and find your ‘golden line’: the line you wrote that is the best of all.
Remember to keep all of your own ‘golden lines’ somewhere, for may come a time when you may need the inspiration. And so may others.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for such a kind (and helpful) response!
This is adorable!
Thanks, Laurie. He’s a precious little boy.
Yeah, Micah is most def gonna be a very articulate writer and a strong reader. Excellent variation of sentence structure and good punctuation, too.
