Darkness
Covering the face of the deep
Covering me
Light
Blinding, searing light
Blinding me
What is this darkness?
What is this light?
Darkness
Me
Light
You
Death
Me
Life
You
Darkness
Covering the whole land until the ninth hour
Covering You
Darkness
You?
Light
Me!
Death
You?
Life
Me!
You rise
Death dies
You speak
Darkness flees
Grace
All is grace

I like your use of contrast as well as the conciseness of this, Barry. It says a lot without saying a lot, if that makes sense.
(Also, I really like your blog layout now!)
Thanks, Glenna. That means a lot to me coming from you, since I think you’re a very good writer and lyricist. It was odd. I haven’t written a poem since college. I’ve been in a melancholy mood lately (hence the darkness motif), but the urge to write something hit me this morning. I threw the basic structure and content together in just a couple of minutes (literally), and then tweaked it a little.
I realize it’s amateurish, but what can I say? I’m an amateur. At any rate, my goal in the end was to magnify the amazing grace of God for someone like me. I hope I did that.
Lovely and true.
Thanks, Laurie.
Nice. I love it when the poet comes out to play.
It may be a long time before you see him again.
