Saved From God
Hey everyone, Derek here.
This week I listened to C.J. Mahaney’s sermon, “Christ Our Mediator.” (Click here to download it free from Sovereign Grace Ministries)
C.J. quoted three definitive Gospel summaries . . .
“The glory of the Gospel is this: the One from Whom we need to be saved is the One who has saved us.” – R.C. Sproul
“Divine love triumphed over divine wrath by divine self-sacrifice.” – John Stott
“The debt was so great that while man alone owed it, only God could pay it.” – Anselm
The results: God’s holy wrath is satisfied, so believers have peace with God and no condemnation from God.
Got nothing to add to that. Thank God.

Really nothing more to say, is there? Good stuff.
I love the challenge of summarizing the gospel. I think the value comes not from actually finding a short line that can contain the immeasurable treasure of the gospel, but from filling my mind with that treasure as I try to distill it into a line.
Thanks for the link, Derek. Daniel’s comment reminded me that recently Trevin Wax assembled a collection of definitions of the gospel and published them in a PDF file. Here’s a link: Gospel Definitions
Ronnica,
I’m glad the quotes were a blessing to you. Thanks for commenting.
Daniel,
That’s a great observation. The Gospel can (and should) and DOES have an amazing effect on us. It stretches the limits of our minds and conquers our hearts.
Barry,
Thanks for the link, I need to check that out (although I wouldn’t call it an emotional need – LOL).
Grace & peace,
Derek
Derek – You made me laugh! (How did you know I needed to do that?) You are a great friend and brother.
