Forgiveness and Fred Winters’ widow

We are never more like Jesus than when we suffer an injustice, and yet freely forgive those who have wronged us.  The wife and family of pastor Fred Winters suffered a grave injustice when a stranger walked into their church and fatally shot Pastor Winters during the early morning worship service.  And yet Cindy Winters responded with grace and compassion.

My wife saw this news segment the morning it aired, and was deeply moved by it.  I’ll have more to say about forgiveness later; for now, there’s nothing at all that I can add to Cindy Winters’ words.

Jesus has gotten some awesome air time lately. Cindy was a great witness of the love, mercy, and forgiveness of our Lord. Mark Driscoll also preached the gospel boldly in the “Does Satan Exist?” debate.

Did Isaac tell you that Fred’s brother and family goes to our church? He read the letter to us that he read at the funeral. He ended with, “May a hundred-fold step in to fill his place.” Wow.

She really did have an amazing response to the “injustice.” I pray that hundreds of watching eyes think, “what makes her so different? It’s not normal to forgive someone like that!” Let’s boldly answer them, “JESUS!”

Wow! Thanks for sharing that video. I was just about to write what I saw my wife already wrote. What a powerful testimony they are giving to the world right now.

    David,

Amazing testimony, amazing grace. I’m glad you could use the video. I hope it permeates the blogosphere and is seen by millions of people.

    Matt,

I knew about Driscoll’s role in the debate, but I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. Thanks for reminding me. I’ll try to watch it soon.

    Jenny and Isaac,

Wow. What a tremendous way for Fred’s brother to end his letter. May the Lord answer his prayer. We’ve been praying for the whole family, including Fred’s brother.

    thejessenhome,

Cindy has been an incredible and encouraging example to me, and I know she has been to a lot of other people as well. I pray that we would all be so full of mercy and grace.
