I’m more talented with the sword
This was a conversation I had with my eight year old son this evening:
“Dad, would you rather have a gun or a sword?”
“A gun.”
“Why?”
“Because you don’t have to get as close to your enemy with a gun as you do with a sword.”
“Yeah, but you can throw a sword.”
“Yeah, but you can shoot a bullet farther than you can throw a sword.”
“Okay. You can have the gun and I’ll take the sword, because I’m more talented with the sword”
…he said confidently, undaunted by the fact that he’s never actually held a real sword in his life.

That is soooo Micah. He would definitely know if he’s more talented with a sword or a gun. At least he knows.
That reminds of the joke about the guy, who after an accident, asked his doctor if he would still be able to play the piano. The doctor asked if he was able to play the piano before the accident, and the man replied “I don’t know, I never tried”.
The confidence and innocence of youth! Something that we do not cherish until we lose it for ourselves.
Too precious.

I’m no good with either, but swords are more fun.
To all,
Thanks for the comments. Micah has a vivid imagination, and keeps us fairly entertained with it. Who needs TV when you have Micah around? And he has his mother’s gift for communicating. I could easily populate another whole blog with things that come out of his mouth.
Oh, by the way, I understand his choice. Swords have a much higher coolosity factor than guns.
That is awesome. I just had my first son 3 weeks ago and I am quite excited for comments such as these.
Hey, Matt. Congratulations on your first son! I’m sure you’ll be a great dad and have a lot of fun.
It’s good to hear from you. Keep stirring things up over there at SBC Voices!
Awww.. this was powerful.
Tell him that he is SURE to have held a sword before and should continue studying to show himself “approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” –1 Tim 2:15

That, my friend, is the best argument I’ve heard yet in favor of swords!
